The graphics cards can't possibly use total 230 watts. Nvidia is just boasting their products as "powerful."

Btw, see benchmark: :p

But anyway, get a 600watts psu. That ought to be enough headroom. Keep in mind 12v rail ampage matters too, not just wattage.

o okay so the 9800gtx in sli uses less. thanks for the link with the setup they have they only use 247watt.
intel Core 2 QX9650(333MHzX9)
Asustek MAXIMUS FORMULA
ADATA DDR2-800 4-4-4-10 1T 1GBx2
WD Caviar WD3200YS
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme
Silverstone OP1000 1000W PSU

i have an antec 500 earthwatt and i dont want to spend money on another psu so u think i can get away with the 1 i have now. Considering there using a similar setup with 1 less 9800gtx.

It's not useless. 9800gtx in sli is still very good, just not as much as you'd expect, and not for the price.

500watt psu should do, but it's cutting it close. Doesn't hurt to try though.

Go ahead, it's not like it'll hurt your hardware. At most, the machine will crash and restart under load. Not too late to buy a new one then.
