Hello :)

The dilemma is simple. Gaming rig, 28" screen (1900*1200), Q9450, 790i. What GPU config will answer gaming needs best? I hear one of the biggest downfalls of the 9800GTX is its smaller memory. The idea of going SLI is to increase overall quality & FPS but also to remedy to the lack of memory.

However, Maziar's post states that 2*GPU's in SLI don't combine their memory, but with the 790i optimising SLI etc... I'm not quite sure.

I'll gladly welcome recommendations & advice.

Two GTXs should easily outperform a GX2, you might even consider two GTSs as that should give about the same performance as a GX2 for even less money.

SLI didn't combine memory then and it still does not, regardless of the 790i or 780i 'optimising'.

actually 2 8800 GTX would be better as the bigger bandwith is more important at higher resolutions.

1 9800gtx, besides Crysis you can play every game at max...

Heck 2 x 8800gt would be enough and leave you money for the bigger hitters in the summer...
