Hey I'm new to these forums.
I'm currently having problems oc my 8800gts 512mb. While playing bf2, lotr online, crysis I'm expriencing visual defects (tearing, odd textures, etc). I've read the 8800gts are good to about 800 coreclock and about 1080 memclock but mine is currently at 750 coreclock and 1040 memclock and I'm having problems. The MAX temp my cards core get to is 80c (I have alot of fans lol) and cpu is not overheating. I tried updating my drivers but still no luck. Anyone have any suggestions. Ty

That's relatively what THG said was the max OC for their 8800GT(740/1040-ish), it is dependent on the card's voltage requirements though. I cannot reach what they say is possible and stable for an 8800GT and I'm content with 700/960 core/mem. I think it's your card's specific limit, 80C could slow it down some though, my 8800GT never tops 55C. I'm referencing my 8800GT because they used the same core, the GTS just has somewhat enhanced spec's.

All cards will have a different maximum overclock. Just because you read about some reaching those speeds doesn't mean yours will. Start with a lower overclock and slowly increase it, testing as you go. That's how you'll find the maximum overclock. And while 80C is perfectly fine for temperatures a stock speed, you want to keep your card as cool as possible to get the maximum overclock from it. Set the cards fan speed to 100% manually.

Wow thanks for the quick replies. My card has the g92 so I might have read the oc specs for the wrong card. I'll try the 740/1040 and see how stable it is. Also is setting the gpu fan speed to 100% (during gaming) going to decrease the life of my card (I know their is some danger in oc) or is it relatively safe?
Edit: One more question: What is it that actaully causes the visual defects from occuring, to much oc on the core clock, the mem clock, or just a combo of both?
