I just bought the Asus Maximus Formula board and I was wondering if it was worth it to replace the thermal compound on the NB and SB with Arctic Silver. Also, if it is worth it, should I still use the sticky gray pad that was sitting between the thermal compound and the heatsink, or should I just put a little thicker arctic silver on there? Thanks.
No no no no. AS is supposed to be used on the cpu IHS (integrated heatspreader) cuz it's conductive. Applying AS5 elsewhere MAY short out the mobo. If you must replace the TIM on chipsets, get MX-2 which is non-conductive.
