First things first, Gigabyte X-38-DS4, 4 gigs of Crucial Ballistix 1066 running at 800 w/ 4-4-4-12, e8400 at 3.6, 8800gts 512 at 770/1050.

This is taken using 3dmark06 trial version, so whatever default settings those are.

Anyway. If I am lucky, using Vista, I can crack 13.1 k. Probably a tad under 13,100. Generally it's 12.9.

I just installed XP and ran it for the first time, and I got this.

Really? That just seems. . . high. And I stick up for Vista around the office, and here I am, with anti-Vista numbers.

So like my topic title asks. . . does this even sound right? I have Vista Ultimate with SP1, if that makes a difference. XP is obviously SP2. Should more score with Vista have been higher? I'm just concerned something is wrong.

I get 12K with a 8800GTS (G92),AMD 6000+ and 2GB of RAM with everything running stock.
Your score is higher than mine with the faster CPU but it looks about right to me.

I would expect Vista to be slower.

Not sure if it's too low. I got just over 15k on g92 8800gts at 790mhz, EX38-DS4 motherboard, 8gig 800mhz ram 4/3/3/12, and Q6600@3.6ghz, in Vista SP1.

Don't know how XP would've measured up, not gonna install it just for benching.

Update driver, maybe? :p

I'm using an Asus P5NE-SLI with Q6600 @ stock, 4Gb Corsair RAM 800Mhz (5-5-5-12) and a 8800GTS 512 @ 678 and get 12K in Vista. Your's seems a little low. What's your CPU score? That would have a lot to do with the final score. XP will score a fair bit higher, and your overclock will certainly enhance that.

Maybe it has to do with the quad cpu? Does 3dmark06 utilize all 4 cores? If yes then there should be a huge boost to cpu score that'll prop up overall rating. :p

Hmm, so I'm not a freak.

I can't wait to see what Crysis looks like with the DX10 tweaks for XP.

Whoo hoo, 5 more FPS. :D

lol, i get 12 k in 3d mark on a core 2 duo e6420, and a single 8800 gts 640... 2 gigs... I love when people either max out their 3dmark scores, or people who are like "wtf..." when they have really low scores with good systems

I know what you mean. All this hardware is new to me, and I just want to make sure I'm getting what I paid for.
