9? What about us abandoned 8 series pwners, which most of us have?

Hey, I totally feel for you man, I ditched my 8800gtx for the 9800gx2, so I know about both sides. In my opinion Nvidia has delayed good driver support for the 8 series to try and beef up the overall appearance of the 9 series. Hopefully for you guys they will release some new ones that are as significant as some of the 9 series drivers.
Look, Im no fanboy, and dont give a arts arse about what card I buy. But Im seeing all these nVidia fanboys slamming ATI about drivers this and drivers that when thats an old old story, and doesnt apply today. If anything, I see people using ATI talking about their new drivers all the time. Then you read about nVidias drivers being tweaked for this and that for show and not application, and while theyre screwing around doing all that, plus turning 8600s into 9500, and the 8800 whatever mess, they havnt made a new driver for the vast majority of their product owners in almost 4 months. Thats pathetic

And thats why I said what I said above. Here they are, making money and not supporting their customers. This is a huge problem from where Im coming from. If theyve been supporting there 9 series, and not their 8 series, its starting to sound a little like the Creative scenario here

Please don't go THERE, this is nothing like the Creative debacle. Nvidia might by pissing off some of their enthusiast customers with their lax driver support, but Creative just dropped their pants and took a big **** on practically all their customers. My X-FI Fatality will be the last Creative product I ever purchase.

I'm pretty sure that Nvidia has the capability to support 8 series cards with their 9 series drivers, however, I still believe they are trying to bloat the 9 series cards. Imagine if the 8800GTX actually had a decent driver upgrade...it would probably BEAT the 9800GTX which has a very slight lead. So.... it is in Nvidia's best interest not to allow that.

Im not giving up on NVidia, but its been waaay tooo long. If this keeps up, it may become a problem. My problem is, they havnt really released anything new except your card SINCE the 8 series, and with no driver support for almost 4 months, and to put a shine on the newer 9 series? How am I to be confident that they didnt just release these newer drivers for the 9 series just for sales, and worse than that, how can I be sure they wont fudge them for the 8 series when we do get new drivers. I mean fudge them just to make their 9 series look better again? After all, theyve already done it once. I guess Im pissed (To you Canuckians, that doesnt mean Im drunk eh?)

I'd be pissed too, esp. if I still had my 8800GTX, but let's face it this probably happens more often that we realize. I wouldnt be shocked if my 9800GX2 recieved little to no new driver support after Nvidia's new offerings in 3-4 months. The top dog always gets the most attention.

Like I said tho , Im no fanboy. I see ATIs driver dev going full steam, and when we have a thrid competiter (Intel) can nVidia still be so complacent?

This is what poor driver support leads us to.... drinking. Soon all computer enthusiasts with poor driver support will inevitably turn to the sin juice. We shall become drunkards and have little or no money to spend on a new vid card, rehab is expensive. Damn you Nvidia. Damn you.

Im hoping theyll come soon with a driver for the 8 series, as its been too long. I may just go beta this time, as I usually dont, but its been so long, I may have to. Having those download something, and what better than a driver blues

I am not a fan of either side, but the nvidia people are die hards. Rather than buying an ATi card, they would live and die with what they have.
Nvidia for life............
@jaydeejohn, i found out like a couple of weeks ago that theres been no 8 series xp support since december. That blows damn heavily. Shame on you nvidia!
Now I read theyre EOL the 8800GTS? http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php? [...] 3&Itemid=1 Hope everyones happy that bought their "new" 8800 series, as well as the 9800GTX, thats EOLd too. Are they going out of business? Theyre acting like it

EOL means what, no longer producing ? That doesnt make them obsolete or useless, there just prolly isnt much demand for them.
EOL means End of Life as in no longer producing or supporting.
The thing is that nV has said since way back that they willl move to a 1-2 official WHQL driver launch a year strategy, mainly aimed at major bug fixes or feature adds, outside of that the enthusiast community can rely on the betas.
Some people like that (they get 2-3 driver versions a month) others don't.

LOL Well, I want to thank B3D for having the 174.74 beta drivers! Theyre working great, seems a little clearer and better bungholio marks, but the best of all is my low fps in a few games are higher and noticeable. When I lived in Langford BC, we always went out and got pissed, on some of the best beer Ive ever had, Okanaguan Springs (spelling maybe off, as I didnt really take the time to read the label ) Anywho, thanks for help finding me a decent upgradeable driver, and I recomend it for sure. P.S. I sure miss Canada

Could you check if AtiTool is working with the 174.74 drivers? I couldn't get ATiTool or RivaTuner to work correctly with those drivers. The OCed values would go back to normal the instant I hit "Set Clock" (in ATiTool).
Im pretty sure you contributed to the fall of HD DVD broken encryption = less movie studios releasing on that format
True, it's all my fault I take total blame.... which is why I bought and LG SuperBlu suckaz !!
Thanks to Slysoft though I think we'll keep free even under the Blu spectre of Sorny.

Actually that's a known issue for ATiTool (quite standard early on, either that or crashes), not sure about Rivatuner though.
I don't know the tool being used instead, just didn't pay attention, but I've seen alot of folks talk about the AtiTool issue.

Wow, what's wrong with the 8 series cards that they need new drivers already? I'm pretty happy with the performance of my 8800GT and the fact they haven't released any updates probably has something to do with very little improvement can be had. I'm not saying that's the real reason but it could be a good one.
The way I see it; buy the product for how it performs WHEN you buy it. Don't expect it to be improved later for free. Now if there are problems with it, expect them to be addressed but from my view-point the 8 series is pretty solid as is. Most of the problems are being addressed on the game side with patchs, not with drivers. Similar to expecting windows to provide the fixes for poor programming of a program that keeps crashing.
I'm in desperate need of a new driver also. Still using both 169.21 (XP) and 169.25 (Vista 64bit) drivers since last february when I got my card. I was hoping back then that NVidia was days ago from improve drivers when playing Crysis.
JPREVOST, I get your point, but don't tell me they can't improve or fix any drivers issues after shortly 5 months from release. It just doesn't make sense.

So buy a new card with each new game?
People expect improvements and compatability fixes, especially when the IHVs tell people not to worry, that there will be improvements in future driver releases, etc.

Did you read what I said? You must, because you quoted me.
What words make you think I'm implying you buy a new card with each new game?
What I said was Don't expect it to be IMPROVED later for free. I did not use the word, "fixed".
Separate your 2nd sentance and I can address them individually.
"People expect improvements..." Well something is wrong to expect anything for free. It's a life's lesson that promises are broken by everybody, including businesses.
"People expect compatibility fixes" Yes, but in my full reply I said and stand by my comment that the 8 series are very stable and compatible.
"...that there will be improvements in future driver releases..." Yes, in FUTURE releases. It's just taking some time but it'll most likely happen in the FUTURE. They used to release drivers very frequently to address compatibility issues and bugs, but since they are rather stable now, the releases will be further apart.
