Why does the text keep crashing on e-mails Im writing?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with a Windows Vista operating system. I have repeatedly had the text of long emails I'm writing completelly wiped out, so I have to start over. It does this on both my att-yahoo and gmail accounts. What's the solution?
