Found this http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php? [...] 3&Itemid=1 Whats next the entire line? Almost there already, that and no driver support for most of their cards since December
Its looking less and less likely that I'll be going Nvidia for my next video card(s)...
It seems Nvidia were too happy at the top and may have forgotten that consumers don't like to be screwed when they're not the all ruling king they once were...
Nice work there Nvidia!
Im wondering just what the h3!! their devs were up to for the last 2 years? And Im thinking, well if I were a driver writer, and saw all those devs takin time out, Id be doing the same heheh. Seriously, this doesnt bode well for the green team. Ive been recommending the next gen to folks, now I guess the folks have no choice!!?!
I was almost certianly going make my new build with Nvida ....I'm not so sure now.
ATI have the 4XXX to be released in June.I'm not one to rush into thing. So after reading about this I will wait till then.
Again Great job Nvida.NOT
Look, Im not trying to crush nVidia, but Im a unsettled 8800 owner with no new driver updates since December, and then I read this, its definately a let down

You keep saying that theres no driver updates since december, but Im pretty sure Ive down loaded a few sets of beta drivers that worked for the 8800GTX, and fixed a few of stability issues for the 8800GTX that I had with the december versions...
Heres the latest driver for a 8800GTX http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html Dated December 19th.....
dtq-
Which ones worked for you?
I tried the 174.xx ones, and gave me tons of issues, so I rolled back to the 169.44, still a few, then back to rock solid on the 169.21.
Running 2 8800 GTX's in SLI on a 680i in XP.
Those other driver werent meant for us lowly 8800 owners, thats why theyre not working, theyre for the 9 series
174.74 is working rock solid for me. Think its because of the g92?
Running 174.74 as well on G92 8800GTS without issues and it filled at least 3/4 of the performance gap between a 9800GTX and 8800GTS running 169.25.

OK, Ill give it a try, tho its not recommended on their site. No WHQL certfied, all beta. Does the betas offer anything more than better Crysis performance, other than the 174.74?
| jaydeejohn wrote : OK, Ill give it a try, tho its not recommended on their site |
For some reason, I'm sure they recommend upgrading to a 9800GTX

Why upgrade to a EOL card?

edit: I totally read your question wrong. I've gotten small increases in almost all of my games with 174.74, nothing huge, just a frame or 2 and about 300 3dMarks.

I find it much more stable under Vists x64.

You see where this is heading right? If I was stupid enough to go from a 8 series card to a 9 series card, the 174.74 drivers may be the last good driver for them as well, seeing as they too are EOL. Too many card releases, no real world improvements, and no driver support, and even their newest is soon to be gone. If theyre making all these changes, fine, great even, as more is usually better (tho that can be argued in this case) but dont leave us adrift with no drivers
Exactly, but at the same time I think it opens a few opportunities for wise consumers as they can just keep buying OEL'd products for much cheaper and upgrade more often. I think the only people who will really get "screwed" by this are people who always want the best of the best and are ready to pay whatever price they have to get it.

Its still a dead end for me tho, as the 9 series really only brought price cuts, as I already have a 8 series, so that leaves me with nothing til the next release, and still no driver support along the way
What are yee on about?
Nvidia deciding to stopping selling 8800gts doesnt mean no driver support..
I have a 7600gt ( which they EOL'ED ) ages ago and I am playing all the new games on it..
Their last driver was from December. Theyve released and EOLd how many card since theyve written a new driver?
lol...
You think no more drivers for 8800gts etc?
They will release new drivers in a while...
You can get drivers released in december for a 6800 ffs..
And Ive waited since December for my 8800s too. You dont see a problem that nVidia releases new drivers for its brand new products, thats excusive, and helps those cards? Then turns right around and EOLs those same cards? And in the mean time, leave me with nothing? Gee, that makes me just happy
Your getting into a panic for nothing..
They will release new drivers, when new games come out...
They have done this for years..
Thats not even what Im on about. If they can make better drivers for cards that are EOL, why cant they do the same for other EOL cards? They can do it if it fits their itinerary, but it isnt keeping me that happy. And nice saying Im panicking, Im just pointing out facts and my displeasure
Its fact for the moment mate..
All im saying is relax , you have made a few threads with 9800gx2 Eol, this thread etc..
You can still get drivers for the 6600gt etc that will let you play all the latest games, I dont thinking they are going to forget there best series in years ( 8 series) in a hurry...
New drivers will come out when Alan Wake is released
Which EOL card are you referring to, the 174.74 drivers are official only for GF9 serie. If are you referring to 8300/8200/8100, they are on-board GPUs and they probably have to release drivers since they added HybridPower to the GF9 family.

Go play games on your card, you do so much talking in here, I wonder do you play lol..
Theres no problem here at all. Stating a displeasure is nothing more than what it is. I find it interesting that Nvidia is EOLing all these cards, especially ones that are so new. This manuever isnt the norm, and it deserves notice. And the fact they havnt released drivers anytime soon is a pita. If that doesnt bother you, or find this uninteresting, or just normal behavior from nVidia fine, Ive no problem with that. You shouldnt have a problem with this as well right? So, besides everything Ive typed about the current situation, where is the problem? If everyone has to get used to this norm, then thats a problem right there. I dont like it, and thats that. O ther than that , no problems
I know what you are saying mate, but they just decided to stop producing the card, no biggie happens in every secotor of business..
Driver support is a bit slow, but it should pick up again when new games come out, drivers out now for the 9 series are because the old ones were struggling, new drivers will come out for the 8800gts etc when they are struggling..
And the problem with the current drivers is?
Sounds to me like the OP wants new drivers for the sake of having new drivers.

From personal tests, I know I got an increase of 5%-15% FPS in Crysis for my 8800GTS (not that I base everything on Crysis, it's just that it came with my card and I found an easy benchmarking utility
) by switching from 169.25 (Official) to 174.74 (beta) and I got no more driver crash in Vista x64. It would be nice to have an official 174.XX, but since the drivers cripples the advantage of 9800GTX over 8800GTS, they might want to hold them a bit.

Well the Xtreme-G 174.74 drivers for windows XP 32bit have vastly improved performance and IQ... I have an 8800gts G92 though, so maybe that makes a difference, not sure...

Also the from guru3d:
" * Download mirror link one is WHQL certified yet only has support for the new Series 9 cards, the rest is not supported.
* Download mirror two serves the previous BETA version, same stuff, yet not microsoft tested and approved, this set DOES support all series 6, 7, 8 and 9 GeForce graphics cards."

I've heard the betas work pretty good...
I've always had a beta driver installed, ever since I built this PC about a year ago and have never had a problem unless I'm OCing, and then the problem is the OC and not the driver
Wow, I just installed those new drivers instead of the 169.21 Omega's (XP). It bumped up my 3dmark by almost 1k. (Trial version)

Thanks.

should I try it on vista 64? Does it do good for 9600 GTs too?
They use the same drivers regardless of nVidea supports it or not. When is the last time anyone got support from them anyway. The only difference is the die shrink of the new core. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If the drivers are good, why should they rush to keep releasing more?

The 174.74 drivers are the latest official GF9 drivers so yes you should at least try them.
