q6600@stock. i built the system for him and played need for speed on it for a couple weeks until he payed me. its quite fast compared to my x1950 which holds its own, but not with the detail levels jacked up at same res.

with my 5600 x2 and a 9600gt i play nfs: ps at 1024x768 crt all high at 25-35 fps with 8x aa. anything more and its a slideshow.
crysis- all high 1024x768 crt 40-80 fps

It should be OK, obviously you're not going to get Crysis at max settings, but you should be OK if you don't want to spend extra pounds/dollars/euros on an 8800GT/8800GTS/8800GTX/9800GTX.

well i just built a new pc with q6600 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 9600 gt, 22" LG monitor, 600W PSU but gfx card collapsed after about a week.. Dont really know what is the cause but it´s really upseting.. Suddenly my PC froze and after restart all I could see was dots and stripes accross.. any suggestions?
