Hi,
I am from Melbourne and am looking at building a new PC which I would use for games like (NFS Pro street etc) and image editing (using photoshop, ulead photo impact etc). I am looking at over-clocking the Quad to 3 GHZ and have read a number of useful articles in the forums on guides to overclock. Hence have chosen a Zalman cpu cooler because its available here and has got great reviews.
This is the configuration I am looking at
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4 ($220 AUD)
or GIGABYTE GA-X38-DS4 ($200 AUD)
PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower 600W ($151 AUD) or
Antec TruePower Trio 650W ATX Power Supply ($157 AUD)
CASE - Antec Three Hundred Black Tower Gaming Case ($90 AUD)
CPU - Intel Quad Q6600 ($276 AUD)
CPU Cooler - Zalman 9700Led ($70 AUD)
RAM - Corsair DDR2 4GB PC-6400/800 (2xXMS2 2GB) TWIN2X4096-6400C5 (XMS2) ($140 AUD) or
Kingston DDR2 2GB PC-6400/800 (2x1GB) CL5 Value Ram X 2 ( 4 1 Gigs) - ($95 AUD)
GPU - Gigabyte RX387512H RADEON HD3870, 512MB, DDR3, PCIE2.0, DSUB, 2xDVI, HDTV, HDMI, HDCP ($250 AUD)
HD - Western Digital SATA 16MB 320GB ($86 AUD)
OS - Win Xp Professional (Already have it)
DRIVE - Asus with light scribe ($37 Aud)
I have a few question based on the above configuration.
Motherboard -> Should I choose the X38 or the EX38. What is the difference and is it worth the extra $20.
PSU -> The Antec or the Thermaltake
RAM-> Should I go for the XMS2 (since I do plan to overclock the quad to 3GHZ) or just the normal Kingston value select. Also does it make a difference if I use 4 1 gig sticks as opposed to 2 2 Gig sticks. I did read the forum and found that 4 1 gig sticks would consume more power.
GPU-> I have chosen HD3870 since I plan to run crossfire in near future by adding another HD3870. Hence did not go for the nVidia 8800GT which is available at $280 AUD.
I would really appreciate any suggestions or tips.
Thanks
Prem
