Putting together a new comp and just wondered if anybody has some good input or advice. Going to be for gaming and going to OC it as well. What I've put together so far. Still looking around for a mobo.. what has caught my eye at the moment.

Spend more money on the motherboard, and less on the cpu. If your going to be gaming look for a board with 790i northbridge, and see if you can get faster ram (ddr2 1066 and up).

I looked at OCing my SNES but chickened out.

I wish people would put product names rather than newegg links. Those things take forever to load in the UK!

Would love to help, but I'm not waiting for 6 webpages.

If you are not doing SLI, go for GA-P35-DS3L.

You can get a Corsair 520HX and save some money on that power supply, unless you are planning SLI.

I would add an optical drive: Samsung SH203B or N.
Also I suggest as a case: Antec 900.

Looks pretty good. What's your budget?

I'd probably drop to a 8800gt G92. Save $100 for the same performance.

Depending on how aggressively you want to OC, I'd probably put that $100 towards a 780i mobo. If you have a high enough budget, maybe even 8800gt x 2 for SLI on the 780i mobo.

If you are going to do some aggOC, a step up to 1066 rated ram would help, but isn't required. DDR3 is worthless right now.

Also, what kind of cooling are you looking at?  Surely you aren't going to use the stock HSF? :non:
If you're sticking with air, I'd recommend the ThermalRIght Ultra 120.

Just some food for thought!  :bounce:

I'm not sure Raptors are worth their price, especially the older ones.   You can get so much more storage for less.  Particularly if you go with a P35 mobo (like the GA-P35-DS3L), stick to DDR2-800 RAM like you've chosen.  DDR2-1066 typically has issues on those boards.

There is ALWAYS a drone.  Exactly where, or how many drones you will encounter may vary, but that there will be at least one will not.

You knoooowww, if it's performance you're after, you could snatch up another one of those raptors and pop out a RAID 0 config.

Or you could RAID 0 two 7200 rpm 320gb drives for around $190. Performance + capacity, all while being affordable!

Found a Tuniq i'll use for the cpu. I have an Antec 900. Computer died month ago or so. Everything was 4 to 5 years old so thought I would get with the times. Budget is around 1000-1200. Thinking about it probably wont be sli anytime soon. Also.. should I go with the wolfdale.. or get a quad?

Did some readjusting.

Seagate Barracuda 250gig x2 raid

Wolfdale 3ghz

8800GTS 512

OCZ 600w psu

G.Skill 2 gigs DDR2 800

Tuniq Tower 120

Leaves me with about 200 to 250 for a good motherboard

OCZ Platinum.  Better RAM for the same price. 4-4-4-15 timings.  I have a 4gb 2x2 platinum version, and they're great.

All the Seagate Barracuda's, except for one, on newegg are OEM.  I'm never used Newegg, but unless they have a good return policy on OEM/Open Box products i would steer clear of OEM. WD Caviar SE 320gb is a good one for retail if you decide against OEM.  I bought mine OEM without know it, thank god it worked out of the box.

You processor choice is good.

Great Graphics Card choice, that thing is a beast.

No idea how good the PSU is.  I'd check the reviews to see what people think.

Great Cooler.

As for motherboard i keep hearing how well the ASUS P5k-e is a great overclocker.  Also the newer x38 motherboards are great over clockers, but you'd need ddr3 RAM.

If you plan on SLI the EVGA or XFX 680i or 790i are pretty good.  However you might have issues overclocking.  I'm running a XFX 680i motherboard and it overclocked fine, but it has pretty nasty Vdroop.  I had to set the BIOS voltage for the processor to 1.4v to get it to 1.312v at 100% load.

You would be better off with a Corsair psu from the reviews I have read...

Been staring at the 780i but would it be worth it with all the video corruption it gets? Watch dvd's on the tv, but I do watch alot of vid's from youtube and gametrailers. Plus been like 3 or more months or so and still no word from the nvidia of a fix.
