I've recently encountered a problem with my system that seems to be impossible to diagnose. Ive asked on other forums and so far am having no luck.
My system specs are as follows,
A64 3000+ Venice
Chaintech VNF4
1GB Corsair Value Ram
200GB Samsung Hard Drive
400W Antec Smartpower 2.0
Antec Solution SLK3000-B
NEC DVD-RW 3520
Radeon X800
Recently when starting up the computer, it hangs as soon as I start it up. It hangs at the screen right after displaying CPU information and before listing RAM information. If I hit the reset switch, it restarts and works normally. I asked about this elsewhere and was told it might be my hard drive.
I replaced my hard drive with a Seagate 500GB today and the problem continues with a freshly formatted, brand new hard drive. This is really frustrating because I'm not wasting money trying to fix something that is seemingly impossible to fix.
Have you tried resetting your CMOS/BIOS? Your motherboard's manual should have info how to do that. Other than that, it's clear that your problem isn't with your hard disk. The most likely culprit is your power supply.
Cant try a different power supply, I dont have another one and I'll be lucky if I get a refund for the Hard Drive I brought. Cant just buy stuff and see if it helps or not
Try powering with only cpu and ram and hard drive , and disconnect anything else inside and outside the pc (connect only keyboard, other than yours if possible), as usb appliances etc. Maybe something is dead, meaning it might be shorting the psu causing it to crash, if not reseting or shutdown.
