Gains depend on the resolution you run. Lower resolutions will produce no gains, while higher ones will produce significant gains, as the 512mb version runs out of onboard ram and have to cross the system bus to access main ram for texture/buffer.
This kind of thing has come up before, Its basically a marketing gymic. It wont make your games run any faster than the 512 card does, todays games/apps dont need that much ram.
However having said that if the price isnt much differance than a standard card then its worth it.
Can you link us to the site and we can see what kind of price they are asking and recomend you a better/differant alternative. Mactronix
Actually I don't think the extra 512MB will make much difference at all, even at really high resolutions. There may be a couple of exceptions but for the most part 1GB is overkill. Get a 512MB GTS instead.
I think if you buy it you're will not get the performance that you just paid.
A 512mb version will go good.
Get an OC version if you got more cash in hand.
Its actually cheaper than the 512 version, I am concerned that the clocks havent been included in the specs.
This card from newegg is the same price and like your palit card also has the advantage of a non standard cooler. Its an overclocked version so would actually be faster than the palit. You would need 2 slots though.
