I am ordering a new system for gaming, but do not want to spend a lot on a motherboard. I was wondering if the Asus P5N-E SLI nForceĀ® 650i SLI Chipset will support a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB video card and Q6600 processor, and how do I tell for myself in the future? Thanks.
If you dont want SLI your much better off the a P35 board. Something like a Gugabyte GA-P35-DS3L will support all you want for sub $100...
The 650i you suggested fits the bill also but if you are overclocking your CPU you maynot get the most out of it.
Generally to check if its the board for you, you simply matchup hardware. the 9800GX2 is a PCI-e16x card if the board has PCI-e16x your right to go. And check the motherboard manufacturers website for CPU support lists

the best way to decide is to make a list of features you want in a board
ie
SLI\Crossfire
support for latest processor(or older one)
budget
ocing ability
company reliability
then read some reviews pick a motherboard and check the feature set \price and see if it fits. and after all that (usually cause i can) google "nvidia 750i issues" just google the motherboard like that and find out how many ppl dislike it. you will always find a few but if there are heaps of issues it might be worth going a different board or manufactuer
