DDR3 or DDR2

i know ddr3 is faster but is it really worth it? i mean i have to buy a totally different motherboard and it is going to cost more money for the motherboard and the ddr3 ram.

Agree with Slobogob, atm there is no significant performance increase with DDR3 to warant the price

Here's something I need to figure out. I'm going to have money for a new build at the end of the summer maybe around Aug or Sept. I have seen rumors on various forums that by that time good DDR2 RAM will be getting scarce. Anyone have an opinion on what I should be planning on around then regarding DDR2 vs DDR3 availability and price?

DDR3 wont come into full flight until Nehalem is out, which is expected to be late Q4 and into 2009 so Aug/Sept is probably a bad time too buy... but then again when isnt when computers come to mind.

DDR2 RAM prices will still be very cheap compared to DDR3.

Yeah, DDR3 is faster, but that's assuming the mobo's chipset is optimized for it.

You won't really see DDR3 outperforming DDR2 until Nehalem comes out.
