Get more out of my value ram

Hi,

I have 4x Kingston 800MHz/1GB RAM modules with timings 5-5-5-15. If I reduce these timings the modules will overheat since they don't have heat spreaders on them. So what I'm planing to do is, buy third party heat spreaders and attach them to my modules with AS5. Please comment on this effort. It may sound stupid for some, but performance RAM modules cost more than double the price of a value RAM pair where I live.

Thanks

Another less dramatic solution would involve installing more case fans to keep the air flowing.

A better idea would be to use something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835704001

It is out of stock on Newegg, but it sounds like you are not in the USA so it does not really matter. Simply do some looking around and see if you can find a company that will ship that to you. The little RAM cooler should negate the need for RAM sinks. It will also do a better job!

Skip the AS5. It'll cause the padding to not stick properly to the memory stick and due to how the sticky pads work the AS5 could adversely effect the heating properties.

why do you want to bump the timings? your not going to notice anything unless your just going for some bragging rights in a benchmark that is almost meaningless to real world use.

umeshnk: The timing depends on how much you can tighten it by. For instance when I went from 1066mhz CL5 to 800mhz CL5 and then 800mhz CL4 I saw no real increase but at 800mhz CL3 it put about 1000 onto my 3DMark06 score which you do really see in games. However that is also dependant on your processor.
