Hi, I am new to sata drives and recently installed my first one about a week ago, the drive I purchased was http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 822136319. The problem is that I have an old IDE drive that I kept in the system for easy transfer of old files to the new drive once vista was installed and after I was done using the old drive I removed it from the system because I want to use it for another computer but now when I get start up the computer I get an error that says "disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter" but once the old drive is back it the system will work fine on the sata drive. I have changed the boot order in the bios for the sata to be first on the list but still says the same thing.
With the old drive installed... Is the bootable Vista drive listed as drive D: ??? If it is, that is your problem I do believe. When you remove the old drive, your Vista drive is renamed drive C: but the boot process is looking for drive D:
