I'm upgrading my computer in preparation for a new graphics card. I aim to significantly increase its gaming prowess In june, I'll buy the graphics card (Radeon HD 3870 X2 or Geforce 9800 - haven't decided yet). So, this is how it looks :
I would rather go on P5K Pro since it has a better power distribution system, wich will be required if you install such power consumming processor and graphic system
as for the RAM, I'm not quite convinced that 4Gb are of any real use

all you need to worry about is the PSU now
The processor's good then? Quad core is overrated, aye? At least that's what I've heard.
Actually, it doesn't really have to be Asus, so if there's a better motherboard I'll gladly buy it P5k Pro looks nice though and the price isn't that much higher.
Yup, P5K PRO is better, heck probably the best P35, but if it nears the price of X38, might as well pick up P5E which will last a year or so.
Are you overclocking the pc? How much? 1-100%.
Quads are overrated, but not fully utilized by all games. Just a handful. For a gaming pc, dualie is the way.
If you're upgrading to Nehalem this winter or next year, pick up a P5K-E for now or DS3L or IP35-E. Save the money for later. P5K is not as gooas P5K-E which is the same as the Deluxe for less.

Can't say I've been an avid overclocker in the past, but I will surely consider doing this with the new rig.
I didn't think of Nehalem. Is it worth to buy this processor now then? Or perhaps buy something worse and wait?
If P5K-E can support it, then I suppose I'll be buying this motherboard - the price's okay.
the 2x2Go you picked is good
it's just that 4Gb seems an overkill in itself, considering most computers run under a 32 bit based OS, therefore you can only really use 3Gb
so most of the programs are made to run with these conditions in mind
as for the CPU: Quad Cores are usefull if you want to launch multiple heavy tasks at the same time
otherwise, dual cores CPU's are the best buy
as for Nehalem, I wouldn't hope to much : we had the same situation with AMD's Quadcore Phenoms, and they tunred out to be useless compared to what Intel had already put on the market
so the question is not "should you wait for the new stuff to come out" but "is your computer sufficent, and will you be able to make it last long enough"
if we kept xaiting for the new stuff, we'd never buy anything

At least I won't have to upgrade memory in the foreseeable future
Dual core it is then. I never had Intel processors before, to be frank. I suppose that's the best choice?
I'm not the kind of guy that buys top of the line. The PSU in sig was used when I bought it for a good price.
I'm not saying you skip s775 & wait for Nehalem. That's just wrong. Pick up a cheap s775 pc if you plan to upgrade to Nehalem. For a dual-core user, I would love to have 4-8 cores. I'm skipping Yorkie for Nehalem like some are skipping vista for Windows 7 (due out next year or two years later).
I always keep myself up to date on the computer industry. I had set my eyes on E8400 MONTHS before its release. Once it was, I picked it up before most everyone else. Now people seem to be playing catch-up & demand still outstrips supply.
In the meantime I'll be watching the development of Nehalem. Just saw the screenshots of a demo pc & a writeup. If indead Nehalem isn't worth the hype, I can always pick up a Yorkie for cheap by then (fall/winter).
You can use the same strategy.
Oh and yes, dualie is king of gaming. Google for yourself. Everyone has different opinions & will defend theirs.
