If the board supports IDE, then you will have to select your IDE drive as the Primary IDE drive through the BIOS menus.

If your laptop uses a SATA hard drive, what can you accomplish by changing it to IDE? Even if you can do that in the BIOS, you will likely just end up with a non-booting system. If you are trying to do something specific by doing that you may be better off asking how to do that instead of what you asked here.
