I have a Sony projector (VPL-10WHT) that does not have DVI or HDMI
connections. It's about four years old and still provides an exceptional
picture via high def channels. Not inclined (financially or otherwise) to
replace it at this time.

Would I see a noticeable difference in DVD image quality if I purchased a
DVD player with video upconverting capabilities? I am aware of the copy
protection issues re: upconverting over the component connections. Assuming
I could find a player with older firmware, would it be worth my while to
swap out my existing progressive scan DVD player? I would need to run the
upconversion through the component cables so I would probably be looking at
the Zenith DVB318.

I've read about video scalers but most are pretty expensive ($1000 or so).
Would prefer to purchase a DVD with upconversion capabilities and finesse
the firmware.

I am referring to a true projector that is putting the image on an large
projection screen.

Thanks in advance for the input.

There are many that like the upconvert. A few still do this over component.
NuoNeo and Brovo come to mind. SHould be a lot of discussion on avsforums.

I can't tell you for sure. It has been discussed at length on the avsforums
by owners of units.
