I'm building a new workstation computer to run Solid Works. The budget is right at $1000. I will need a monitor as well with the build. Any good ideas? I'm looking to run XP64, Probably 4gigs of ram, I haven't decided on AMD or Intel. Over-clocking will not be necessary.
You're really going to be even close to a good system for that money. Take a look at the Solidworks site and then start plugging in hardware for your OS. There are also users forums available to give you a better idea of what hardware works best.
4GB DDR2 800 by Corsair, Crucial, or any other high quality manufacture Note: The P35- DS3x and DS4x boards seems to have problems with RAM natively higher than DDR2 800, but you can still OC DDR2 800 to the same level
Any case, DVD RW, you like.
