I'm considering getting a 8800 GTS 512 oc Alfa Dog from XFX, Would I be better served looking at the 9800 GTX?

It depends on if you want to SLI in the future.  The 8800GTS is better for the money but if you want to SLI later, you better get the 9800GTX as you may not find an 8800GTS when your ready to go SLI.
