Memory question for an Asus P5E

Yes it will take any DDR2 up to 1200. Better not to exceed DDR2-800 for comptability reasons.
The memory you use depends on the processor. I choose always one step up form the FSB/2 speed of the processor.

DDR3 is still too expensive. Not worth it.
For DDR3 choose DDR3-1066 (minimum), DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600.

If you go with the Q6600 and DDR2, get at least DDR2-533, better DDR2-666, best DDR2-800. It leaves you overclcocking room.

Ok, sticking with my original plan. I think Im going to go with the ddr2 800. Should cas 5 be alright or should I step up to cas 4? Is there that much of a difference? If not I think I'll go with the cheaper 5

There's only a difference in some benchmarks and when compiling projects(application specific software) or encoding video. Maybe a frame or 2 here and there in games. C4 RAM usually overclocks a bit more.
