Vista 32 bit operating system cant find hp photosmart thru usb

Hello,
I have vista 32 bit quad 4 and I have hp photosmart c4280 printer. Computer cant find scanner thru usb. It prints and copies fine. I have windows 7 on laptop this works fine. My desktop is vista and it does not display or anything it will print and it will copy but I need to scan and it says usb not pluigged in.
