I am trying to build a HD dvb box from spare parts lying around from past builds So here is what I have;

Sempron 2500+ CPU I think its 1.75ghz
Socket A Asus motherboard with an agp slot
Geforce MX440 64bm AGP video card
1GB ddr 400mhz Ram
80 Gig HD

No you will need at least 2 fairly good cpu's(dual core) to decode HD DVD and Blueray video.

you can do it with single core running some of ati's/nvidia's new cards...and there is also a board with onboard video that just kicks ass at HD playback.

If you build from scratch you can get a rather low powered(quiet) cpu and play hd with the onboard video doing allot of the legwork

A list of cpu's that playback HD video with cpu usage....shorter bars are better...

Sorry for that bad news...that will make a good SD video playback device with any format...
