hi all, i dont know alot about prcessors and just wanted some help.

 

i currently have a pentium 4 3.06 ghz...
i wanted to know if i could upgrade to a core 2 duo without buying a new mobo...

i did upgrade my video card to a nVidia 256mb 8600 Gt, added some ram (total of a gig and a half now)and i upgraded my power supply to a 500 watt..i dont know if that matters

It doesn't say on the website. The detailed specs say nothing about the motherboard. Based on that I would say that I doubt it will work.

Doubtful. OEM motherboards are locked down and it's impossible to find a BIOS update UNLESS the OEM provides one.

Looks like this might be your mainboard.

If so, the specs indicate that Core2 is not supported by that board.

Really anything that will fit in there and work, won't be able to match even a moderate core 2 duo.

Those boards are a dead end, there isn't anything to upgrade them to that would be comparable with today's hardware..that board is at least 2 years old.

Tell you what, you buy a core2 duo and I'll do you a swap for my pentium D.

It happily clocks to 3.8GHz on the stock cooler! Of course it does idle at 65C even with speed step...
