My friend wants to put a 9600GT vid card in his PCie x16 slot. However the box of the video card says you need a PCie 2 x16 slot. Is there a difference? What is the difference? Will it work?

Many thanks,

It will work fine.
There was PCIe1, and now there is PCIe2.
All PCIe2 cards are backwards compatible to work with PCIe1.
Physically, the slots are exactly the same.
No worries.

As usual there are a few exceptions, check the internet if anyone had problems using a PCI-Express 2.0 on your motherboard.
