Hello everyone,  so I just upgraded to a QX9650. I was wondering if these temps were normal: Cores 1,2,3 run between 30c and 32c. But Core 0 runs more like 40c, basicly about 10c higher then the other 3. Is this difference normal? These are  idle temps with a small overclock to 3.3.  Thanks....

Well first off what are your specs? And what cooling are you using? Cores 1, 2 and 3 seem normal and you will normally see core 0 and 1 a bit warmer than 2 and 3 since they get used more but one just being almost 10c higher seems weird.

You might want to try to reapply the thermal paste and HSF. It may not be making good enough contact with the area core 0 is at.

Try that and let us know whats what.

um its your default core so it gets more load so its not to out of line considering most software is still single threaded.  either at stock speeds or better trying doing an overclock of 4ghz 1600fsb (voltage for my qx9650 is 1.45 (in the cpuz it shows about 1.4....to give u an idea where ur voltage should be. run 3dmark in a loop and watch to see if all your cores jump up in temp...ideally they should all be close to just under 50c if your air cooling. only reason i mention the overclock is it should add some heat and stress....the off chance your one core is "bad" or semi defective but operable would become unstable easier or get to hot...or not, solving your dilema either way.   at 3.33 u get it at stock voltage like myself i assume on a 1333 fsb...if not then u might have trouble.

The type of heatsink is not mentioned. If its stock Intel, then the temps are probably normal. I use a TRUE and have an idle temp of 28c with at 3600mhz and when I bump it up to 4050mhz the idle temp runs at 32c. I have the core voltage at 1.3v. As already stated, you might want to reseat the heatsink with a new application of themalpaste. Of course, if you are using the stock heatsink, you might want to get a better one.

Sorry I'm using the Zalman 9700 with the Super Thermal Grease that came with it.  Will using Artic silver make a difference? Also the Motherboard Im using is the Gigabyte 965p-DQ6...

I use that Super Thermal Grease and AS5 and they both work the same. I would say reseat it and see if it helps. Make sure both sides are tight as they can be to get maximum contact.

Well of course because there was nothing wrong with the thermal grease you had...reapplying thermal paste of any kind is not going to make core 0 run cooler....lol

Wierd PC Wizard is telling me 3 of my 4 cores on my QX9650 is at 45 degrees except core 3 which 30 degrees celcius. That's with no overclocking.
