Getting error message hit f1 to contine or f12 for security settings computer wo

I installed my previous hard drive into a pre exisiting tower, but I cant get it to boot up, at start up i get error message
hit F1 to continue or I believe F12 for security settings, I get no further Any ideas? Windows Vista was used on my previous computer but i believe the current tower was windows xp
