Recently the fan on my Video Card has been rattling and this caused me to call XFX tech support. After a short conversation they are sending me a new fan but this ordeal caused a new problem for me. I bought my PC about 4 years ago and everything has worked fine for me aside from video cards. I had to remove my card in order to make sure the fan was the problem and in doing so I had to disconnect the power cords from it, obviously. The problem is it was a little hard to disconnect since it's been on there for so long so I went to the other end, either way I got both ends disconnected and cleaned out.
The problem came when I turned my PC back on. I put the card back in, reconnected the power cords and got a new startup screen that I have never seen before. It was a big "Alienware" text with the Pentium icon and said "Press DEL for Setup". After a bit it goes to something telling me about a FastTrak 378 controller, then says "Scanning IDE drive..." and then tells me the following:
"No drive attached to FastTrak controller, the BIOS is not installed."
This was also something new. I remember seeing this screen but it never told me this before. I looked on Google and every response seems to be that the person probably isn't using RAID and then gives them information on how to remove the message. My problem is that I have seen this screen before and it never told me it's not connected and no BIOS is installed. On top of that the Alienware screen has never popped up. I pressed DEL once to enter setup and the screen it sent me to is the one I am used to seeing, then it brought me to the setup screen after that. I have no idea how or why this stuff changed but I was hoping somebody here may have an idea. Maybe I hit or broke something while in my PC and if I did, what does the device look like? I can take pictures of the inside of my PC if that helps and I have a screenshot of the device manager here: http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1223/raidbb3.jpg
If anybody has any idea what I did wrong please let me know. I also have some Multimedia Audio Controller that is apparently "New Hardware" on my PC that I can't find drivers for and I have no idea what it is. I was considering using my Alienware Recovery CD to bring it back to how it was from the factory, but if I disconnected something that won't help. Anyway, thanks in advance and hopefully somebody can make sense of my mess.
Ok im assuming what has happen is that somehow the CMOS has been reset. This has caused everything to go back to defaults.
The Alienware splash screen can be turned off in the BIOS no issue there.
The audio controller is more then likely an onboard audio that has been disabled in the BIOS in the past, i assume you have a seperate sound card. This can also be disabled in the BIOS
I assume the machine still boots and you have all your drives available, in which case you can also disable the Fasttrak controller. Its used for RAID on your mainboard, this is not in use to disable it too
