I received a laptop to fix that might have a possible virus that is preventing it from logging into the desktop. It runs through POST and shows the operating system loading, but after the Windows icon - the screen turns to a blank greyish page with no information.

The operating system is Windows Vista and there are no error messages displaying. I am currently running diagnostic tests to see if any of the hardware is ruined.

I know I can reinstall the operating system and fix this immediately, but I need to get some pictures off of it first. Is there any way possible to do this?

Easy, boot off an Ubuntu or Fedora liveCD. then you can copy any data off the hard disk onto an external hard disk or thumbdrive. then run the system restore tool from the laptop to factory restore your windows.
