Warming Up Lamp

I'm using a HP 4300C Scanner, and it works VERY well, but the first time you use it after it has been dormant for a bit it gives the message "Warming Up Lamp." After about a minute it is ready to go.

Is this normal, and does this happen with other Scanners?
