I want to build my 1st computer here in the Tampa area - and I'm looking for a "guru" to help me through the process. I'll buy the parts, etc. Would like to find an experienced builder/configurer who would be willing to "baby sit" a newbie through the process. I could pay a reasonable "fee" for the help. Looking for someone who's successfully built rigs! Thanks, guys.

... And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free, and I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

You'd have to travel a good many hours dude - Montreal (Quebec) would take ya about 24 hours of drivin' or something like that - you'd know you were here once you hit the snow

I appreciate the help offer - but it's too far to drive.
If any THG Forum guru's are in the Tampa, FL area - would like to contact you re: building a new computer.

Have you ever built a computer before? If not it's really not that hard. We can walk you through it step by step and if you really want help I'm sure you could call one of us and we could walk you through it. First things first. What are you going to be using this computer for, what is your budget and do you already have any components?

No - never built one, that's why the "unsteady nerves". I'm not a gamer, but want great graphics (photoshop, MS Office apps, photo's, etc.) I want to do either an athlon XP 2800 with top mobo, or P4 2.53 gigs with top mobo; DDR 400 mgz (512 to 1 gig), good sound card (this isn't critical), modem, ethernet, full compliment of USB 2.0 and at least one firewire connector, Promise Raid card, twin Western Digital 80 G hard drives - as a "rough idea".
Would appreciate an email address so we might swap phone #'s. Email me at starsa9@yahoo.com
Thanks

Hmm, I've had really good experiences with maxtor and promise raids, the components seem to like each other a lot. Perhaps maxtor would suit u as well?
What I wouldn't give to be near Tampa right about now. I would love to show you the ropes, but you could get the directions through the forums if the directions are detailed enough
Thanks for the offer - but the primary reason I don't try to build & then trouble-shoot thru posts is that my knowledge starting point is so basic that it would eventually mean too many posts (where does this screw go ... etc) and so much lag time in replies - that by the time I got it put together, configured and running - I'd have to upgrade or build a new one. I know the "parts", but am not mechanically-inclinded. I'll keep looking, thanks.
Perhaps after I get the 1st one under my belt - and have some hands on experience - I'll be able to use the forum more effectively. I want to assemble parts in hours, not weeks/months.

Sorry it took me so long to post. I generally only post monday through thursday, because I'm out of town on the weekends. My emaill is Low__rider@hotmail.com (two underscores) We can help you through it. I have a digital camera and can take pictures and post them on lochel.com (thgc photo album) if you need a visual aid. It's really not that hard. Now you said you want to do a lot of graphics designs and such and not so much gaming. If you're not in a terrible rush we can get you a list put together by monday and then let you know what reputable dealers you can order them from. We can give you a run down and some pictures of how to install things, and then when you get it if you need you can call me and I'll walk you through the install. It's not really that hard. I'll pm you my number.
