Will you have to re-install XP if you just use it without any other applications or updates in a stand-alone environment only to play Solitare with?

-Eventually; yes you will.

:)

Sorry, couldn't resist that. Put those flames out, it's a joke, ok?

edit - had to make sure people understood it was a joke. Some of you are SOOOO touchy!

Lol, that was funny. Anywho no you shouldnt, only if you replace mobo, or harddrive would you have a issue there.

even replacing the MB you dont have to reinstall windows, just drivers... Now and again you will have to REinstall the OS but not normally.

changing the processor may require a bios update but never a XP reinstall.

In a perfect world we wouldnt have to resinstall it at all unless we had a harddrive failure, but microsoft thinks that 3 hours of your time isnt worth much, lol.

Use sysprep and you don't have to reinstall on a mobo replacement either, just install the drivers after the replacement.

OP shouldn't need it for CPU and RAM but with a MoBo change, one might try the new Image Tool on the block:

Shadow Protect Desktop has a feature called "Hardware Independent Restoration"

Quote :

The software's most impressive unique feature is its Hardware Independent Restore (HIR), which runs only from the emergency CD. With HIR, you can take an image made on one computer, restore it to another that has entirely different hardware, and be confident that the restored image will boot. You'll probably need to install sound and network drivers for the new system, but you'll be able to boot—a feat you'll rarely manage when you transfer an existing system to a very different machine. Also, you'll be able to use all your existing software and settings without going to the trouble of installing all your programs again.
