Kind of a stupid question. but do all mainstream (not $1) fans of the same size and same rpm perform roughly the same apart from noise level?

i guess, but you are paying for the reduction in noise when you buy the better ones.

Three speed manual switch works pretty well. Bad part is the switch cord is a little short
I'm running 2x80mm and 1x120mm, nice and quiet.

No, not at all, there are TONS of different fans on the market. I'll give you a link, this should put you in a place where peeps know what they are saying in scientific actual PC use.

Thx, that's what i thought. I just opted for an extra 120mm fan but it's made by "Deep Cool" box had it 1000rpm faster than the coolermaster, and 2cfm higher. didn't think it would be but it seems to be working the same as my other coolermasters

Pay no attention to what the manufacture says, there is NO standard measurements for DB, CFM, Pressure etc.

It's a pain in the butt when you purchase 30 different makers and then them on your own with $500 of testing equipment. Thats what we praise and bless the ones who do such tests.

Thats what matters. Untill makers get standards (right!! LOL) it' sup to us to help the real world testers. Paypal, and a hug once and a while does wonders.

yes, true, most of them all run the same except for maybe a little teeny difference in performance and sometimes even a big difference in noise levels (nothing so bad in my opinion though)
