Hello TH-gang,

I am wondering if any of you know of an affordable and reliable Socket A motherboard. I know it's an oldish type, but my current KM2M motherboard fried and I need another. I really want to preserve my CPU, Ram, and other components and find a cheap way to fix this problem. I have searched the (few) options on NewEgg, but simply don't know if I'm going to buy a lemon or not. Reader reviews are pretty much non-existent for some of these old things.

So I turn to you Tom's Hardware folks. Any recommendations?

There is only one socket A mobo at Newegg, and frankly its a piece of crap. Try one of your local computer stores, there should be a decent socket A board such as the Abit NF7S kicking around. Either that or something like the KR7A-Raid board, depends on what type of memory you currently have.

A lot of the mom and pop type computer stores have older systems kicking around that you might be able to pick up for a few dollars.
