Um..what's wrong with SATA? You can't get a motherboard without SATA anymore can you?

You're not going to get much for just $250.

Asus mobo with AMD 780G chipset: $100

This will give you a pretty good onboard graphics setup and a pci-e slot should you want to upgrade to better graphics in the future.

AMD Athlon X2 4850e: $90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103255
Very low power consumption. Includes fan.

Use the other $60 for some new memory or a SATA hard drive.

Probably not. I think what the OP was getting at was that they wanted a mobo that would allow him to use IDE / ATA hdd's instead of just SATA ones.

Pretty sweet how you modded that case to look like an old Gateway.  The Win98/ME sticker and 'Intel Inside' sticker look authentic enough to be real.

The only reason I say no SATA connections is because i don't want to buy another HD and I love my 500GB that i have in my computer now :D

Educate yourself about handling PC components and proper assembly of
your new computer before you even receive the components.
Be smart.  You want to have a good experience not a smoking mess.
...Right?

@Mufferin: I believe that rsetter was just being proactive and thorough, not insinuating you were not competent at building a computer or being rude....
Suggesting one familiarize one's self with building anything has its place in EVERY topic... ;-)

It's a "retail" box - all the retail box AMDs (excepting some black editions) come with heatsink + fan.

Make sure that case has a detachable backplate for the USB/audio/KB/mouse and all that... Ever case I've worked with that looks like that doesn't have a removable backplate, it has one built in that is part of the rest of the case.  If thats what you have going on, it will be hard to find a mobo that will work in it.

Honestly though on memory, since your on a budget you could probably shave 15-20 bucks if you go with something like Wintec AMPO memory.  It's cheap buts seems ok for being on budgets.  For video, do you plan to game or what?  If so you can get a superclocked 8800gs for a little over 100 shipped if you want to splurge a little.  That said though, those 780 boards are supposed to have decent graphics.
