either the beta 174.44 or 169.xx from nvidia.com ?????

Use the stable driver. Betas may still have unresolved issues. Or you can use tweaked drivers like Omega for more performance.

174 helped out my 8800 gts alot

I'd stick with the latest released drivers and not the betas. After all, they're betas for a reason.

The 174.74 betas are working fine for me.

yeah but why the nvisia site say that those drivers only support 9 series cards
