Hi all, I was wondering if I could stick a Pentium 4 with HT (800MHz FSB) into a motherboard with an x38 or P35 chipset, and have it function like normal.

If so, will the 800MHz FSB limit the RAM to a speed of 800MHz or lower, or if I buy something faster, say 1066MHz, will that work as well?

Regardless of what speed the ram is the system will only use it at 800mhz unless you oc your fsb. While the p4 should work in the mobo there is no way to tell for sure. Buy a new cpu

I was planning on buying a new CPU quite soon, but I need to upgrade my motherboard (and hence my RAM) before I can do that, which makes it quite costly for me. Plus I don't believe that a 915PL chipset can run with a processor newer than the Pentium Series.

Thanks.

keep dreaming

hmmmmmmmmmm, well as far as im aware that the 45/43 is the first series to no longer support the P4.

but here is what i would do. it seem that the x38 is in your price range so iw ould get a p43 and a e7200 and say good bye to the p4
