More Information

I am currently building a new machine for my aunt.
eVGA 650i Ultra Motherboard
Q6600 Quad-Core Processor
Corsair 1x2gb 800MHz Gaming Memory
eVGA 8600 GT Graphics Card
BFG 650w power supply.

She didn't really need anything special but I figured with all this stuff she would have a nice computer that would last her a good long time... if I can get the thing to work ><

When I tried to power it up the first time it wouldn't stay on, it would just power up then shut off a split second later. I finally got it to power up and run until I shut it off but it doesn't go anywhere. It doesn't beep and there is no video.

I took the motherboard out of the case thinking it was grounding out on it (it has happened to me once before) and powered it up that way, still nothing - it stays on but no beep or video. To narrow the possibilities of faults further I unplugged the CD/DVD ROM, the HDD, and the video card. Still nothing.
**Quick question off the subject** Just for my knowledge, Would a computer post/beep without the video card in the motherboard?

I then replaced the motherboard from the place I got it thinking it was a bad motherboard - I am having the same issue with the new motherboard (exact same one 650i Ultra). I then purchased new memory thinking it was bad memory but the new memory - Corsair 2x1gb 667MHz - doesn't seem to help anything.

I read the quote below in another post which seemed very similar to mine... the problem is, I can't find an 8-pin secondary ATX connector anywhere on the motherboard - I see a four pin connector located near the CPU mount and the PS/2 plug-ins but nothing else.

Quote :
The board is built on a standard ATX form factor and will fit in any ATX chassis on the market today. The board requires a 24-pin primary ATX connector and an 8-pin secondary ATX connector to run, so this may mean that upgraders will have to purchase a new PSU. These connectors are typically equipped on dual-processor boards, although with single-chip quad-core CPUs becoming more mainstream, having an 8-pin secondary ATX connector on even budget-level boards is common.

Anyway, I am at my whits-end here I have no idea what it could be at this point other than a bad CPU perhaps. Any help regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated.

So did you plug in the 4 pin connector? Your system will not post without the 4 pin cpu aux plugged in. If you have eight pins coming from the PSU then just break it in half - it's got a pre-cut for this purpose.
