Hey guys, I was wondering if thermal paste is really necessary?

Here are my specs:

intel q6600
evga 750i ftw mobo
Sunbean core contact freezer
2 9800gt's in sli
Corsair 750tx psu
Case: The case that came with my 4 year old computer ( gateway 831gh) I don't know what the case is called.

I do plan to overclock my cpu, but only a little bit.

On a side note, will i need graphics card coolers? I don't plan to overclock those.

you absolutely need thermal paste. your computer will shut itself off if the temperatures get too high, and this will happen within minutes, if not seconds, if you don't have any thermal paste. but if you mean that you don't wanna buy a different thermal paste because there's paste already applied to the cooler, then yes, you could skip buying thermal paste.

I'm pretty sure there's no thermal paste already applied. So what thermal paste would you recommend? And how often do you have to re-apply this paste?
