6400+ vs. e7200?

I'm thinking of building a computer, but don't know which chip to build it around, the AMD Athlon 6400+ or the Intel e7200? This will be a gaming PC. I'm not really too concerned with overclocking (I already know Intels overclock better). Which chip will perform better in gaming?

I think the 6400+ would be faster. Note however, it will not be nearly as power efficient, (65W v. 125W), but if you don't care then I'd go for the 6400+, should be a slightly faster chip.
I also like AMD's sockets/chipsets, you can easily upgrade your chip without having to purchase a new mobo (in most cases).

i read in a review that the e7200 beats the 6000+ , its cheaper and it has new 45 nm technology and supposedly it can overclock too from what i have read . I too will be making my next build on the e7200 with the GA EP35 maybe next week. Thats my opinion based on assumptions and google , other people will be able to tell you better.

Hmm ... you need to give us an idea what you want to do with it and how much you want to spend?

At Stock they are similar in performance - the 6400+ has an edge on a few things ...

The E 7 / 8 / 9 series uses a bit less power under load and is easier to cool ...

If you want a good gaming chip then look at a Q9450 or an E8400 - bit more future proof. The Q6600 is also going cheap now but uses a little more power as it is an older design that these two.

Neither of the first two is a good choice really ... not if your looking to be still using it 12 to 18 mths down the track.

I can't conscience giving you bad advice ... that's why I quit my last marketing job ...

Stick 4 Gb or RAM in it too .... you will be glad you did in 2yrs time.

What ever you buy is out of date straight away, but buying a high end dual/quad etc will set you up for years to come.

Try e7200 + $15 Alpine 7 cooler( best affordable cooler ever) and over clock it to 3.5GHz!

First of all I got to tell you , I have the e7200.
Why would you not want to OC?
You can leave the bios the way it is but just change the FSB to 333 for a OC of 3.16 and use stock cooler. Boom you got your self a e8500 speed. Its so easy a baby could do it.

I second what Roadrunner said. You don't even have to change the stock voltage to run @ 3.16ghz. I have torture tested on Orthos and mine's running rock solid at 3.6ghz, 60 degrees celcius max with a modest 1.3625 volts, which is within Intel's recommended voltage tolerances for a 45nm chip. This is with a $15 Masscool HSF. There's really nothing in it's price range that can touch this chip.
