I want to build my own system, but I really have no clue what i'm doing..I just need something for light gaming and media storage, not gonna be playing Crisis or anything like that, however I really don't know where to start. The only resource I have is newegg.com that someone told me about and this place, but other than that I don't know what quality of what parts I should get for the rig I want to build, or how I would even put it together when I get it. I would really appreciate it if anyone could point a newbie like me in the right direction, thanks!
For a starting point, checkout the "System Builder Marathon" articles on the home page here for low ($1000), medium cost ($2000), and high cost ($3000) projects. I do not advocate blindly building any of them, but it IS a goog place to start.
And huron is right. We need to know both the budget and the primary purpose of the system.
Realize that this is an enthusiast board. You'll get many suggestions like the one above, which is way overkill for what you describe you need. You'll also get perfect suggestions.
There are many threads on the subject. Do some searches. Look for something like:
ds3l
e2160
2 gb ram
320-500gb hd
$100-125 video card
You should be able to get what you need for $600-800.
For a first time, you might want to consider a "barebones" computer, which has some things already inplace yet you will still need to install some of the key components.. There are several online stores that offer these at very reasonable prices..

Brunnen, you newbie. 32 years ago, I helped a friend build an RCA 1802 based microcomputer. Well, actually, I did most of the building. He did the software. Forth is a strange language.
