Wont recognize Seagate barricuda 7200.10 250gb

So i just got all my new parts to build a computer and everything checks out good ( as far as i saw) except for my hd never shows up in the bios. Ive tried to auto detect it in every sata port and i get nothing. It spins and powers up like normal which makes me even more confused. im running it off of a nvidia 780i motherboard. i also thought maybe it would auto detect itself during startup so i tried to install my OS ( windows xp) and it got to the point where it tells me there is no HD to put it on..... Help?? suggestions??
