I have a friend that is willing to give me an e2160 processor. I would like to build a gaming rig around it. I already have a power supply, dvd drive, case and monitor. I will need a motherboard, memory, a Hard drive, and a graphics card. Low price is important!

Thanks

P5K-E

8800gt 512 or ATI 3850 if you need something a fair bit cheaper.

Hard drive you want a 7200 or 10000 spin with the most cache you can (ideally 32Mb)

Memory's a tricky one, I've got crucial ballistix but I'm everyone else has a preference...

i second that P5K-E mobo as i have it and it's a very good mobo! for a good gpu on tha cheap i say the 9600gt 512mb would be perfect and you can get it for around $150.

as for mem they are stupid-cheap now. go with ddr2 800 and you can easily get 4gigs for $80 at newegg.com or just 2gigs for $40! for the hard drive just go with one that has 16mb cache speed they are good drives and will keep your price down!

GA-P35-DS3L for the mobo.

What kind of power supply do you have? That determines what kind of graphics card you can use. Ideally HD 3870 or 9600GT or 8800GT or even 8800GTS 512MB, but it depends on the PSU and your budget.

Memory: OCZ DDR2-800 2x1GB.

Hard drive: WD6400AAKS has the best price/speed/size combination these days AFAIK.

I agree with aevm.  Tell us about the PSU.

Thanks for the helpful posts! My PSU is an Antec Neo HE 500 watt.

One more thing: I would like to upgrade to a wolfdale in the future, when I have some extra cash.
Thanks!

That PSU is up to the job.  Go with aevm's suggestions; video card depending on budget and the games you want to play.

Oh yes. The NeoHE 500W has 38A combined on the 12V rails. nVidia recommends 26A for a system with an 8800GTS G92 512MB, 22A for one with 8800GT, and I forgot the numbers for 9600GT and HD 3870 but they're even smaller. You can get any of the cards I listed in my previous post (they are sorted with the slowest first). I recommend the MSI 8800GTS 512MB from newegg, especially if you like RPGs and haven't bought the Witcher yet.

Lots of people using that DS3L with an E8400, no worries there :)
