How do I get my linksys befsr41 to transmit a wireless lan signal so i

ok I have a linksys router model befsr41 and I have linked it up to a westell modem
model 6100. I then hooked the the router directly to my home pc and my internet works
fine, but when I try to access the internet wirelesly with my laptop from the next room i cannot get a connection. I have made sure that my firewalls are turned off to keep from hindering the signal. I would like to use the router as a wireless lan access point so I can connect to the internet with my laptop from anywhere in the house. what should I do?

First check on the Linksys site (or manual) that yours is designed to work with a separate modem -- it sounds as if it's already got a modem built in.
