Laptop problem diagnosis

Hello,I have a
dell laptop, about a week ago i noticed the battery wasnt charging..the icon would say 0% avaliable plugged in not charging..then it would constintly shut down. then i used my sons charger and the computer works but still says plugged in not charging,HELP.. does anyone know if i need a new battery or a new charger. was told by dell i need a new motherboard.

Can you use your son's battery also ?

If your computer is over 2 years old then YES you need a new battery. just like car batteries and cell phone batteries they must be replaced every 2-3 years.
