right...i really dont want to spend more than $150 on a mobos, but i want to xfire with duel x16 slots. So if i get a "open box" maximus forumla at 50% reduced price do u think i will encounter any future problems?
Open box monitors are usually ok, open box hard drives are usually ok. The motherboad is the dead center, the heart of your entire computer. skimp elsewhere, but not here.
I don't trust open box items or refurbished for that matter. It usually means someone had a problem with it before you. Maybe it was a user error, maybe a hardware error, but I'd rather not take the gamble.
I bought an open box from Newegg, it had all the stuff that normally comes with the motherboard. It works fine.
I had return RMA written on the box, no RMA number. I speculate that it was a system builder return, it did not even look to have been opened.
But, if you buy an open box motherboard be sure to test it right away, so you can send it back it it's NFG (Non Functional Gear).

Yea, i was also looking at the Open Box formulas....STAY AWAY.
I asked a rep at newegg, he said that its most likely just the mobo and he himself said that it is hard to say if it would work fine. Also the warranty is going to be partially used...
well thanx people, i bought the new 1 for $224. It had a combo deal if u bought a hd-dvd player with it, wasnt bad $224(mobos) + $100 (hd-dvd) - $90(instant rebate) = $234 which i consider to be a steal.
