Im running 3.0ghz on my Q6600 on stock heatsink, thats the safemode.
I did successfully clock mine at 3.3ghz, however with temps at about 75c at full load, so that wasnt really the most adorable clock ever,
so stick with about 3.0ghz if your heatsink is properly seated, but as always, check the temps rather than relying on data from me or others.
Start by going up to 2.6ghz, check temps under full load, then 2.8,
then 2.9 etc upwards until you feel that this is the maximum you can get without risking to break the CPU. :)

Agree. 3.0 GHz is about the limit using a stock cooler. Using an inexpensive HSF such as an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, the limit is about 3.3 GHz. Anything much higher will take serious cooling.

I've gotten 3.6 GHz on my Q6700 with an OCZ Vendetta cooler (similar to Freezer 7 Pro). Although I couldn't get it stable in tests, it never reached over 60 C on 100% load. As long as you're under that 60 C, I think you're fine. Some people go over, but I don't know if that's a really good idea. :S Btw, I haven't lapped my cooler or CPU.
