Dear Readers,

I am about to buy a brand new pc with a Core i7 Processor. The Case will be a NOX COOLBAY HX, the CPU a INTEL CORE I7 920 2.66 GHZ 8 MB and the motherboard GIGABYTE GA-EX58-DS4. What CPU cooler do you think i should but? I want one with a good performance and thats silent too. But performance above all. Please help me.

Best Regards, Untuchable.

At the moment, there's not much choice for LGA 1366 coolers.

There's is the Coolermaster V8. Unfortunately I cannot garantee you get it delivered with a 1366 mounting bracket. Some say it does, others not. Coolermaster sells a separate bracket, but it is hard to find at the moment.

Second, there is the Thermalright Ultra 120 (extreme) with its black and copper edition. For all these coolers there is a 1366 mounting bracket available and it think it is easier to get too. This is the link to the page for the bracket: http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_ [...] 366boltnew .
If you look at their products you will see they also have a Ultra-120
eXtreme 1366 RT. This is basically a Ultra 120 Extreme with a 1366 bracket, a fan and a special fan mounting, so I would not consider buying it. It's not so easy to find btw.

Finally, Noctua also has the NH-U12P SE1366, which is a normal NH-U12P with a 1366 mounting bracket and two fans.

That's about it for the moment, but all coolers I mentioned are considered as top notch coolers. However, I would not get any of the Thermalrights, because they have a bad reputation of making their coolers bases not perfectly flat. However in reviews they get excellent temps, but it is kinda gamble. If you are lucky you cooler from thermalright has a quite flat base and works fine, but the other scenario is perfectly possible too.
I recommend the Coolermaster V8. It gets good results and according to Frostytech, which is one of the leading cooler review sites, its base is perfectly flat.

So, I hoped this gave you some insight in the knowledge of recent LGA 1366 coolers.

Forgot to ask. How much do you plan to overclock your CPU?
